Health Care and Healthcare: Immoral and Unconstitutional | Dr. Deane Waldman’s

For decades, political pundits and the mass media have bombarded the public with a drumbeat of misinformation on healthcare. By the power of constant repetition and with dissent suppressed, these two falsehoods have become commonly accepted wisdom:

1.Health care is a fundamental human right.
2.Washington will solve our healthcare crisis.

Health care MUST BE a right! After all, everyone says it, from policy wonks and mass media to Washingtonpoliticians and religious leaders, even Pope Francis!

Healthcare is, after all, a federal responsibility. If Washington wont fix healthcare, who will?

As long as these false facts form the basis of our policy discussion and planning, health care will be unavailable, and healthcare will be impossibly expensive.
Objective analysis of the above wisdom shows that a right to health care is immoral, and federal control of healthcare is unconstitutional.

Definition of terms

Healthcare can be one word or two. As two words, health care refers to an intimate, legally-protected, one-to-one, fiduciary relationship between patient and physician.

As one word, healthcare is the system, a massive, complex, exceedingly expensive, and dollar-inefficient industry that employs tens of millions of Americans and consumes nearly 20 percent of U.S. GDP.

The dictionary defines right as a noun, a moral or legal entitlement to have something or to act in a certain way. One does not have to qualify for a right or pay for it. People have access to their rights whenever and wherever they choose. For examples, consider the rights to free speech, religious liberty, and assembly (Amendment I); keep and bear arms (II); security in your home (IV); and speedy, public trial (VI) read more…

Public option won’t serve the public | Dr. Deane Waldman – Fixing US Healthcare

BY DEANE WALDMAN, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR — 01/24/21 02:00 PM EST

THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY CONTRIBUTORS ARE THEIR OWN AND NOT THE VIEW OF THE HILL

https://thehill.com/opinion/healthcare/535557-public-option-wont-serve-the-public

Democrats now control the White House and both Houses of Congress, albeit with very slim majorities.

What will they do with (or to) health care? “Medicare for All” or the House bill — Medicare for All Act of 2019 — is probably a non-starter. Introduced almost two years ago, the act has never been brought to a vote probably because of its price tag of $32.6 trillionto $40 trillion. Worse, the Medicare-for-All bill, H.R. 1384, will reduce access to care.

The centerpiece of the Biden Health Care plan is the public option. Polls show support for that approach though, not surprisingly, few know precisely what public option means or what it will do.

According to the Biden health plan, a public option is a “public health insurance option like Medicare” and “like Medicare, [it] will negotiate prices with providers” and “negotiate lower prices” for drugs. Such negotiations will be the ultimate power mismatch between the federal government and any single commercial entity. Washington will likely dictate to providers, hospitals and suppliers: take it or leave it.

Biden’s use of like Medicare should raise serious concern in American minds. The hospital portion of Medicare will be insolvent, i.e., will go broke, by 2026. At that time, Medicare will no longer be able to pay for seniors’ hospital care. What will happen to seniors who need in-patient care?

Why should Americans support a plan “like Medicare” that presumably would be just as fiscally unsustainable and medically unavailable?

The public option is a taxpayer-supported, federally administered insurance company. Private insurers, who currently cover 176.7 million Americans, are commercial enterprises. They either take in more revenue than they pay out, or they go out of business. With our tax dollars behind it, the public option cannot run out of money. And, the federal government can print money: insurers cannot read more….

bureaucracy in healthcare | Insurance bureaucracy | Fix US Healthcare

There are too few therapists and no burn units; doctors can’t accept Medicaid patients and nurses are quitting, because too few “healthcare” dollars go to health…care

Imagine a big truck full of bags of money. The bags start rolling down the ramp. The federal bureaucracy takes the lion’s share. Then, insurance companies and corporate medicine take another big piece, and only a few dollars are left for patients and their care.

Do you think the millions of rules and regulations are free? Can you build Health Insurance Exchanges or expand Medicaid for no cost? Do all those healthcare consultants, accountants, actuaries, billers and coders, compliance officers, lawyers, navigators, regulators, etc. work pro bono?

Children Belong in Classrooms Not Bedrooms

With the summer drawing to a close, the big question for nearly 60 million U.S. school-age children is whether they can return to school, or must they remain at home, limited to remote learning? States and municipalities differ widely on whether and how to reopen schools based on differing assessments of the risks.

The teacher unions are resisting school reopening with political demands that have nothing to do with teaching, such as defunding the police, passage of Medicare for All, and elimination of competing charter schools.

Strictly speaking, children are not completely immune to infection, but they are, indeed, “almost immune.” Most definitely, children are highly resistant to illness and death from the virus.

Vaccination Is Not EntireAnswer To CoViD

As the Pfizer-BioNTechvaccine is now being shipped out, and with Moderna’s mRNA vaccine about to achieve FDA approval,Americans begin tobreathe easier believing that vaccination isthe answer to our prayers, an end to the CoViD-19 nightmare. Suchconfidence is misplaced. Vaccination is part of the answer but not the complete solution.

The goal of vaccination is to make all Americans immune to the virus. This is impossible for two reasons. First, there is vaccine efficacy. The most optimistic, early reports suggest 94 percent effectiveness. Even if everyone were vaccinated, 6 percent or 19.8 million Americans would remain susceptible, i.e., could become infected.

A second reason we cannot achieve anything close to 100 percent immunity is that many will not accept vaccination. A report in the Wall Street Journal (12/8/20) suggested as many as 40 percent of Europeans intend to refuse vaccination. The number of Americans refuseniks is unknown but is likely to be large. If 40 percent remain susceptible, we may not develop herd immunity.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for more than 35 years, claimed that herd immunity is both dangerous as well as nonsense. In fact, herd immunity makes perfect epidemiologic sense. Herd immunity is precisely what we seek: that is the only way to stop this or any pandemic. When we achieve some magic number of immune people, the virus cannot get to susceptible individuals to infect them. The herd of immune individuals form a protective barrier around the susceptible.

Herd immunity achieved by mass vaccination is called artificial or medical herd immunity. Herd immunity acquired through infection and recovery is called natural herd immunity. Dr. Fauci was presumably referring to natural herd immunity as dangerous. While this is true for the elderly with multiple comorbid conditions, CoViD is not dangerous to the general, healthy population or in children. Their actual case fatality rates are approximately 0.1 percent and 0.03 percent respectively, similar to the seasonal flu read more….

Democrat Healthcare Promises are Another Fraud

On November 3, it was not only CoViD-19 but ongoing failure of our entire healthcare system that was foremost in voters’ minds. Close to 80 million Americans apparently believed Democrat promises they would produce a healthcare system we all want.

Whether implementing Medicare-for-All (favored by Kamala Harris and Bernie Sanders), the Biden Healthcare Plan or some combination, Democrats promise they will accomplish the following.

1.All Americans, including more than 10 million undocumented immigrants, will have government-provided health insurance: everyone will have coverage.
2.Patients can choose their provider and their care per Section 103, Freedom of choice, in H.R. 1384, the Medicare-for-All bill.
3. Care will be free at point of service.
4. Only the wealthy, those making more than $400,000 per year, will see increased taxes.

Before considering the evidence for or against future Democrat promises, one should consider the fate of past promises, their track record. Otherwise, to quote philosopher Jorge Santana, those who do not study history [accept past reality] are doomed to repeat it [live in fantasy].

In 2009, then-President Obama assured us his namesake law would bend down the unsustainable healthcare spending curve. In fact, Obamacare added $1.76 trillion to healthcare spending. The promised family savings of $2500 per year turned out to be smoke and mirrors. The ACA more than doubled healthcare costs for the average American family according to both Heritage Foundation and Health and Human Services read more…

American Freedom of Speech Has Been “Abridged”

Do Americans still have the right to speak their minds freely as guaranteed by the First Amendment? Apparently not, as one 19-year-old can attest.

Newly professional bike racer Quinn Simmons lost his job when he supported President Trump with one word. A Dutch journalist, Jose Been, had tweeted that he hopes “this horrible presidency ends for you [referring to Americans], adding, “if you follow me and support Trump, you can go.” Cyclist Simmons tweeted back, “Bye.” Officials of cycling team, Trek-Segafredo, fired Simmons claiming his tweet was “divisive, incendiary, and detrimental to the team.” When a different tweet accused Simmons of being “a Trumper,” he replied with a picture of the American flag. Apparently, this added to the incendiary and divisive nature of his speech.

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was intentionally placed at the top of the list of fundamental American rights. The founding fathers thought the most important right was to protect our freedom to communicate from over-reach by a federal government.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” Every American should know this Amendment by heart and abide by it.

Progressives certainly know it, but they do not abide by it. They “abridge” (curtail) the freedom of speech of anyone with a different view, especially those who support President Trump. Progressive radicals, calling themselves liberals, in positions of authority or with media presence, such as broadcasters and Hollywood celebrities, may speak freely and falsely against President Trump. Dissenters cannot. Furthermore, progressives believe they are free to incite to seditionviolence, riot, and looting, even though such speech and actions are illegal read more…

On Fox and Friends on August 5, 2020, President Trump said it was safe to reopen public schools because children are “almost immune.” Reopening would benefit both children and teachers and would allow parents to return to work.

Will 2020 Americans Celebrate the Fourth of July by Repudiating 1776?

Before the American Revolutionary War, residents of the North American colonies were subjects of the British crown. They were entitled to whatever goods and services the aristocracy allowed. Their living conditions and daily activities were determined by government fiat. They paid taxes arbitrarily imposed by the crown.?

In 1776, the founding fathers of the U.S.A. rejected centralized dominion and replaced it with a structure that took control away from the central government and gave it to the individual. The new Americans were free to make their own choices and accept the consequences of their decisions, good or bad. Without using the word capitalism, the founding fathers created a capitalist system. The new Americans were personally responsible and were entitled to nothing, except an open road.

Entitlement is an integral part of socialism, an economic and political system where the means of production, distribution, and exchange is regulated by the government. The government is responsible for these activities, not the individual. The individual is entitled to whatever goods and services the government allocates.
